dc.description.abstractThis study was conducted about the assessment of safety measures towards reducing road accidents in selected fuel oil supplying companies; Total Ethiopia Libya oil Ethiopia and NOC. For achieving the objectives of this study, 98 questionnaires were distributed for truck drivers and company staffs and 94 of them were successfully completed and analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis. The participants were selected using purposive sampling methods for drivers and senses method for company staffs. In addition, face-to-face interview were conducted with oil company transport managers, insurance company representatives, vehicle owners and road transport authority representatives through semi-structured interview questions and the questions were analyzed using descriptive narrations through concurrent triangulation approach. The study identified road accident leading factors; long service years of trucks, none experienced drivers, vehicles parked on highways, inadequate road signage’s, drivers fatigue, low educational level of drivers are the major challenges which seem to impede to reduce road accidents. Multinational oil companies face problems on their stock exchange market at home country because of road accidents which registered globally where they are operated. In line with the findings obtained recommendations to oil companies, respective governmental bodies (road transport authority) and insurance companies are forwarded. In addition, further investigation suggestions for other interested researchers have been forwarded.en_US
