Abstract: It was very clear that employees are an integral part of any organizations, keeping them satisfied is very significant task for organizations success. The purpose of this study was assessment of employee retention practice at Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. The main objective of this study was to find out employee turnover is an ongoing practices in CBE, to identify whether they have or not a good career development, recognition practice, job security, working environment, and the relationship between employees and supervisors of the Bank. The research was a descriptive study applying quantitative and qualitative approach in which data was collected across a population through convenience and purposive sampling method and used descriptive statistics for the data analysis. Questionnaires filled by employees of Commercial Bank of Ethiopia in order to know the retention practices and strategy that are designed and implemented in the Bank that leads organizational success and employee satisfactions. Interview questions were conducted for branch managers and human resource management at head office. The purposes of face -to -face interview were to know if there was actual retention practices and strategy that was implemented by the organization. The result of the analysis showed that there were employee’s retention strategies available in the organization. However, most of employees of the Bank is not satisfied with their salary and benefits, career development, recognition, organizational justice and job security. Based on the study, the researcher tried to conclude and recommend that the organization needs to revise theemployees financial and non-financial accommodation.
