Abstract: In any organization employees’ motivation is the key factor for successful organizational performance. Motivating the workforce of an organization to work more effectively towards the organization’s goals is perhaps the most fundamental managerial task in a given organization. Organizations motivate their workforce to perform effectively by offering those rewards for satisfactory performance and perhaps improving them for unsatisfactory performance. The study has been designed to assess the impact of motivation on employee performance at Bank of Abyssinia. The population of the study was 176 workers from head office and five branches of the bank. The research design of this study is descriptive. Data was collected through questionnaire and semi structured interview. Questionnaire’s were distributed to head office and the five branches of Bank of Abyssinia and Primary data were analyzed using percentages, frequencies and SPSS 20. The result obtained from the analysis showed that there existed relationship between employee motivation and the organizational performance. The main findings of this study show that majority of the respondents said that their level of motivation is low with the current motivational factors of Bank of Abyssinia in spite of the fact that staffs are mostly motivated by promotion. The study concluded that the level of staff motivation at Bank of Abyssinia is generally low and this will have an implication on staff commitment and productivity as well as success of the organization. It is recommended that the bank to use appropriate employee’s based motivational packages to achieve individual as well as organizational goals like Maslow’s hierarchy of need.
