dc.description.abstract | The main objective of this study was to assess the psycho-social factors that
can affect female students’ assertiveness. The study employed both
quantitative and qualitative design. From the total population of the female
students of Wollega University College of Education and Behavioral
Sciences 40 female students were selected by using simple random sampling
techniques. The participants were selected from female students of 1st year
up to 3rd year students from College of Education and Behavioral Sciences
Data were collected by using self-administered questionnaires and interview
of the participants. Rathus assertiveness scale was used for the selfadministered
questionnaire for female students. Interview was employed to
gain data from experts of Wollega University Gender office and Counseling
center services. Quantitative data was analyzed by using frequencies and
percentages. While the quantitative data or interview data was analyzed
through narration. The finding of the study reveals that female students are
slightly assertive due to psychological factors and social factors affecting
them. From the psychological variables fear and anxiety are the major
factors while from social factors teachers and classmates’ negative attitude
are the main factors in leading female students to the low level of
