Abstract: Enterprise risk management (ERM) has emerged as a new paradigm for managing the portfolio of risks that face organizations. This thesis wants to assess the practice of risk management in private commercial banks of Ethiopia at the level of ERM framework Coso (2004) . The studies conducted in sixteen private commercial banks of Ethiopia. The researcher used descriptive research design. A purposive sampling technique was used to select employees from risk management and compliance departments. The total population of the study was 105.This questionnaires were distributed to the respondents and returned and filled appropriately. The main instrument for collecting primary data was questionnaire. The data was analyzed using both descriptive statistical like mean, standard deviation and narrative methods. Narrative analysis was used to explain the qualitative results of the survey. The findings of the study were that Private commercial banks in Ethiopia has a moderate practices of ERM in terms of the objective seating , risk identification, risk assessment, risk response ,risk control, communication and monitoring. Regarding to the result that shows for reasonable extent practice of risk management which means the respondent was in average agreement about practice of ERM . This study pointed that private commercial banks should give attention, to establish a comprehensive ERM risk managements committees for each private banks on providing the vital information and creating for awareness for ERM frameworks of eight components coso (2004) to all lines of the staff in the form of training, panel discussion, seminar, workshops and different mechanism to implement ERM efficiently and effectively .
