Abstract: | The purpose of this research is to provide a recommendation on how historical buildings in
Addis Ababa should be preserved for the future generations. Urban regeneration is not being
practiced due to governmental policy clash, lack of attention, biased focus on modernization
rather than maintaining the traditional form of the architectural design. These are some of the
causes for the historical buildings to be ruined; whereas they have economic, social and
historical benefits. To this end, this research used both qualitative and quantitative research
methods by using questionnaires and interview. It was conducted in Addis Ababa, Arada Sub
City where most of the historical buildings are found. It also used Random Sampling
Technique and selected thirty educated citizens to share their experience about how they
perceive the historical buildings. In addition, two organizations were interviewed to find out
how historical buildings are being protected as heritage sites. |
