Abstract: The purpose of this study is to assess the Local Non-Governmental Organizations’ (LNGOs) social work projects implementation practice to improve the lives of socially disadvantaged children. The study was used to assess social work project implementation practice in a sample of LNGOs in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Despite the fact that each project is unique in its own characteristics, there are some common areas that could be observed in terms of social work project implementation practices and the challenges that NGOs face today. Distractive and exploratory design used in the study with mixed research approach. The researcher excerpts different success and challenges factors that influence project implementation. The study was employed questionnaire, interviews, observation and document review data collection tools to assess the situation. This study was used both primary and secondary data sources, 37 NGOs working on child development projects were involved. Of 85 project actors 70 project coordinators, project officers and social workers, the middle management project staffs were involved in the study. Data analysis showed that the projects were implemented at a medium level with on average level of governmental support and low level of community participation, but there were difficult to implement the project in terms of scope and quality. The findings of the study also of showed that, the organizations’ fund mobilization and financial situation were the most significant challenges affecting the practice of implementing social work projects in the selected LNGOs.
