Title: FACTORS AFFECTING WOMENS’ EFFECTIVENESS IN LEADERSHIP ፡A CASE STUDY OF BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS IN ADDIS KETEMA SUB CITY

Abstract: The main objective of this study is to identify factors affecting women’s effectiveness in leadership in some selected business organizations in Addis Ketema sub city. Quantitative methods were employed to achieve the research objectives. The sets of respondents are men and women employees working under the direct supervision of women managers, women leaders who are working in senior management positions and managers who oversee managing women. The study participants for quantitative analysis are: 201 (employees), 40 (women leaders) and 30 (managers) selected using systematic random sampling and purposive sampling technique. Data from the quantitative survey were analysed by using frequency, percentages, mean, standard deviation, correlation and Multiple Linear Regressions. The correlation analysis shows that there was a strong and medium significant association among value & behavior of the manager, support provided, valuing diversity, leadership quality, communication and management skills. Multiple linear regression models are used to find out factors affecting women’s effectiveness. Results from multiple regression with the overall sample variables result from the employees, women leaders and managers revealed that: personal factor, lack of support, cultural factor, organizational factor, social factor and work life have statistically significant and positively affect women leaders effectiveness. Based upon the findings, the study suggested that honesty and integrity, giving recognition and praise, encouraging employees to work in diverse groups, problem solving and decision-making as necessary action to bring significant change in women effectiveness in leadership positions.
