Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the determinants of employee engagement in the Ethiopian banking sector. To identify the factors that affect employee engagement, previous literatures, theories and models were considered and based on those previous research works, a conceptual framework was adopted. This study used explanatory research design and both primary and secondary data were utilized to meet the research objectives. The primary data were collected by distributing questionnaires to 361 employees of the selected three Banks. And the collected data were entered and processed using SPSS version 24.0. The correlation analysis result showed that job characteristics, leadership style, and reward & recognition have a strong positive relationship with employee engagement. The finding of the study using a multiple linear regression analysis revealed that all the independent variables (job characteristics, leadership style, and reward & recognition) have positively and significantly predicted employee engagement. Based on the findings, the researcher forwarded recommendations and future research directions.
